About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everybody's chains came loose. Acts 16:25-26
As I was praying for the people of the Pacific Northwest tonight the Lord brought this verse to mind. Satan has so many people in chains. He wants to hold us prisoner! Sometimes we are so unaware. He sneaks up on us. We tend to think of people in strongholds to "serious" sins like sexual sins or addictions. What about unbelief? What about slothfulness? What about the things that we don't do? The things we are supposed to do.
I'm talking about just going on with our everyday ho-hum life and not seeking God and all of the riches that He has in store for us. Mediocrity was not meant for Christianity. Jesus says in Revelation "So, because you are lukewarm - neither hot nor cold - I am about to spit you out of my mouth." God does not want us to become "comfortable" in our Christianity. We are always supposed to be in pursuit of Him!
Does Satan have you bound to mediocrity? I have been there. And I have been set free. Satan sneaks up on me all the time - I have stumbled. I have fallen face first in a big ol' puddle of mediocrity! Are you there? Get up!

I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may now him better. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms. (Ephesians 1:16-20)
The same power that raised Jesus Christ from the dead is available to us! What if we prayed? What if the foundations of the earth shook and every body's chains came loose?
This is a tough one....I know that everyone has their own struggles in life, but one of mine is just letting go and letting God show me the way. For me to not try to force myself down the path that I "think" is the right one. I am always looking for the signs or feelings in my daily life, to show me that He is near, and leading the way....Its just hard for me to recognize them.
ReplyDeleteFirst, this blog is so great. God is really using it to speak to my heart. This topic specifically brought me to tears. I have asked God many times to search my heart. We all sin, of coarse, but I have known for some time that there is "something" holding on to me that is keeping me from going deeper with Jesus....the love of my life. There wasn't one "thing" that I was struggling with in particular but just a void...mediocrity. I am broken and ready for the earth to shake.
